While Sitting in Church

…I used to scribble thoughts that struck me in a small black notebook. Later I’d write the best of the best into the margins of my Bible with the sources of the quotes. Now, when I read my old Bible, that was my lifeline in those days, I like to seek out those quotes. Here are two from Romans 12.

From Edward Beachy:

Attitudes By Which Christians Should Live

Verses 1-8: Attitudes toward God
Verses 9-16: Attitudes toward fellow Christians
Verses 17-21: Attitudes toward enemies

Thoughts from Jerry Hoover on verses 1 and 2:

1. I beseech you, therefore brethren, by the mercies of God (not receiving what we deserve) that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. (Be at God’s disposal, giving up the things that crowd Him out. )

2. And do not be conformed to this world (do not redefine holiness) but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and perfect and acceptable will if God.
