Jeremiah Seven: Uh Oh.

“Our denomination is the right one.”

“When you come to the true light you will join our church.”

“Come to church. Come to our church.”

“Those people (of a different denomination) are no kin of ours.”

“But – they’re not _________________ (pick the denomination to fill in the blank.”)
**This statement infers that people from other denominations are wrong.

Sound familiar? It was familiar to Jeremiah, too. He basically told them that the physical structure they called “THE Temple,” was actually not the temple at all. The real temple was within them in an obedient and merciful heart. To add insult to injury, what they called worship was actually highway robbery! Their temple was a place of idolatry!

Doing all the religious things, the ceremonies, rituals, sacrifices and offerings were considered “sacrifice” in the Old Testament and their means of salvation. Yet in this chapter God reminded Jeremiah that sacrifice was not what He had asked of them when he brought them out of Egypt. He had said,“Obey My Voice and I will be your God and you shall be my people. Walk ye in the ways that I have commanded you that it may be well with you”

This was said before the sacrificial rituals were instituted.

Sacrifices are for US, to aid our understanding of the things of God, not to impress HIM or gain favor with Him.

In the New Testament religious rituals, such as baptism and communion are also for the purpose of helping us remember what Christ did for us and to aid our understanding of GOD. In no way do they save us.

Lets not forget that.

**Denominations within the universal Church are not necessarily a bad thing, but to believe that one’s own denomination is exclusively the “right” one and others are wrong – now that’s a bad thing. Read 1 Corinthians 12:22-27
